Movies
There are six movie houses downtown with a total of 20 screens -- not to mention the famous Pacific Film Archive on campus, which shows rare, special, foreign, and historic films (see 25 on map). UC Theatre (2036 University) is the last big, old-fashioned, undivided movie house, featuring classics, second runs, cult favorites, and foreign films.

Live music:

Blakes (2367 Telegraph): rock, funk, jazz, soul; restaurant upstairs has been a south campus fixture since 1940.

Freight & Salvage Coffee House (1111 Addison): Berkeley's best and most venerable folk music venue offers a different act every night.

La Peña Cultural Center (3105 Shattuck) features mostly Latin American music.

Mr. E's (2284 Shattuck) Owned by Pete Escovedo & family, this is the place for salsa and Latin jazz.

Yoshi's, at Jack London Square, is the best place for jazz in the Bay Area, plus it has a great Japanese restaurant.
