About Cal Parents

A Welcome to Parents and Families

With a student at UC Berkeley, you've joined an amazing, lively, diverse community. Before our own son enrolled, we knew about Berkeley's unsurpassed reputation for teaching, research, and public service — the reputation that drew us to the campus in the first place. What we didn't expect was Berkeley's commitment to help, engage, and involve us as parents.

The Cal Parents program is the centerpiece of that commitment. Advised by a board of more than 70 parents and supported by an incredibly dedicated staff, the program offers the resources and referrals you need to support your student's education at Berkeley. Cal Parents keeps us up to date on all the campus has to offer — from our experience, that's had a real benefit on our kids as students.

Cal Parents works to keep the parent-student-university partnership strong and vital. In addition to this web site, we'll be in touch through campus and regional events, telephone and e-mail helplines, the Letter Home newsletter, and the Resource Guide for Parents . We also reach out to parents to encourage their involvement and support in these ways:

  • Facilitating parent-to-parent communications
  • Urging financial support for UC Berkeley through The Cal Parents Fund
  • Advocating for UC Berkeley in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.
  • Recruiting volunteers for Cal Parents events and activities
  • Providing input to the campus administration.
The college years are among life's highlights — the time when our sons and daughters put our years of nurturing into practice as independent adults. On behalf of Cal Parents, we invite you to join us in making the most of the exciting years ahead.
