Academics
Choosing a Major or MinorStudents should select a major based on their own interests, abilities, and career goals. Those who study what they enjoy, what they are passionate about, are more likely to succeed in their classes and careers. All Berkeley colleges and schools with undergraduate programs have advisers to guide students in choosing a major. They are committed to lending support for what can be a difficult decision. The College of Letters and Science, whose students have the broadest options in choosing a major, offers resources and assistance in making this decision. When possible, students should take classes in a variety of disciplines before selecting a major. It is not uncommon for students to begin undergraduate work with a clear direction, only to be drawn to a more engaging area of study. Students should declare their majors as soon as possible, but take the time to choose wisely. Many students earn a degree in four years. However, those who change majors, choose double majors, or hold jobs or internships may require more time to complete their requirements. |
