Grades and Transcripts

Grades are communicated directly to students, generally online, at the close of each semester. Parents do not have access to their student's records without the student's written permission. The privacy of student records is mandated by the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and also by UC Berkeley's policy that students are adults, with the associated rights and responsibilities.

The Office of the Registrar maintains academic records. If your student needs a transcript or certification of enrollment or academic status, this office can help. Transcripts may be ordered online, by mail, or in person; they may be returned by mail or picked up in person, but only by the student or by someone the student designates in writing. A fee is charged for transcripts, with additional charges for rush orders or special processing.
