Freshman and Sophomore Seminars
Quick Reference: Academic Information

Freshman and Sophomore Seminars grew from the conviction that early intellectual contact with faculty members would greatly enhance the undergraduate experience at Berkeley. Professors from nearly every campus department have joined together to offer an impressive array of seminars. The courses bear 1 unit of credit, are limited to 15 students, and freshmen or sophomores are given priority for enrollment. Other lower division seminars are limited to 25 freshmen and sophomores. These courses also offer lower division students an unprecedented opportunity to explore a wide range of majors and fields of study usually reserved for graduate students. Parent contributions to The Cal Parents Fund have helped to make this dynamic program possible.
