Quick Reference: Parent Involvement Each year, parents are invited to invest in their student’s education. A gift to The Cal Parents Fund makes an immediate impact on your student’s educational experience. Parent gifts support vital undergraduate programs and opportunities such as the innovative Freshman and Sophomore Seminars, faculty recruitment and retention, campus safety services, and classroom technology. Parents also may choose to designate their gift directly to a specific area, such as their student’s school or college, or an athletic team. Today, California provides only about 31 percent of the university’s annual budget; student fees cover only 20 percent. Gifts to UC Berkeley help make up the difference and ensure that students get all the benefits associated with attending the nation’s premier public university. During the school year, parents are contacted and invited to support The Cal Parents Fund by mail, student callers, and fellow Cal parents
