Campus Safety: From the Chief of PoliceFor the officers and other personnel of the UC Police Department, insuring the safety and well-being of your student is our most important mission. We are a highly trained and well-equipped police force dedicated to securing the campus, residential facilities, and surrounding community. Our philosophy places a premium on professionalism, innovation, and integrity. We build partnerships with our public — faculty, staff, students, and parents — based on information, service, and awareness. Our crime prevention booklet, Safety Counts, is a comprehensive guide for students on staying safe at Berkeley. UCPD also offers night escort and shuttle services, self-defense courses, and safety presentations. Review these resources with your student, and please contact us with any questions and comments. UCPD also provides rapid emergency response in the event of earthquakes, fires, and other crises. We work closely with the campus Office of Emergency Preparedness, which distributes a wide range of informational materials for the campus community. The Berkeley campus is not an island. Our surrounding urban environment is a source of both enormous vitality and complex challenges. We rely on your input, participation, and concern in our work to meet those challenges. Victoria L.
