Spring
2005 | On any given day, UC Berkeley is one lively place.
Students hear the most interesting people and the most amazing scholars.
They make music, play sports, see performances. They work with the
treasures of dozens of libraries and museums — from the manuscripts
of Mark Twain, to the artifacts of ancient civilizations, to the
flora and fauna that color our world. On any given day, that’s
Berkeley.
But
on Cal Day — Berkeley’s annual open house on Saturday,
April 16 — the campus pulls out all the stops for some 35,000
visitors, rolling out a special welcome for families and for newly
admitted students in particular. With faculty lectures, tours, music,
sports, museums, and more, the campus gives even the most seasoned
visitor a whole new appreciation for Berkeley’s breadth.
Cal
Day runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with a session for newly admitted
students and their families beginning early, at 8:30 a.m.), and
admission is free. Parking is free, but limited; free shuttles run
all day from the Berkeley BART station.
With
some 350 campus events scheduled, the challenge is planning your
day. Here we offer some ideas for both the beginner and the repeat
visitor. The full schedule of events is at www.berkeley.edu/calday.
