Intro to Cal Day
Brand new to Berkeley? Try this set of must-sees:

Start It Off Right
Chancellor Robert Birgeneau and other VIPs welcome new students and families to kick off your day at 8:30 a.m.

Take a Tour
On foot or by motorized cable cars, guided campus tours leave every 30 minutes. Also, take a residence hall tour, offered throughout the day.

Meet the Faculty
Don’t be shy — march right up to a professor and get those questions answered! Letters and Science deans will meet visitors at 1 p.m., engineering faculty will be out all day, and professors will be at many department info sessions.

Ask the Experts
Real, live Cal students give you the inside scoop on everything from life in the residence halls to academic planning. Try the “Freshmen 15” panel at 2 p.m. or “Bear Talk” —
11 a.m. and 1 p.m. — for advice from those who know.

Do Something Wild
There will be exploding experiments in chemistry, creepy bugs under the microscope, robotic cars, pot-throwing at the art studio, and music galore. Try something new!

Kick Up Your Feet
Join Cal Parents for an end-of-day snack and conversation, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Alumni House.

The Advanced Course
Been here and done that? Not so fast:

Have an Inaugural Ball
This year’s special: the Inauguration of Chancellor Birgeneau culminates on Cal Day. Hear him speak at
2 p.m., and don’t miss the inaugural symposia (see right).

Hear a Star
Berkeley’s stellar faculty lead you to new ideas in every field. Learn about new planets, Alzheimer’s breakthroughs, earthquakes and tsunamis, how to stay healthy, and lots more, all from Berkeley’s world authorities.

Sneak a Peak
Ever tempted to look behind a closed door? We make it easy by giving visitors a look at labs, libraries, and museums not usually open to the public. Try the paleontology, vertebrate zoology, or music collections, for starters.

Bells, Bells, Bells
If you think you’ve heard a bell tower, think again. Make your way near the Campanile on the hour, starting at noon, to hear a carillon the way it was meant to be played.

Get Down and Dirty
Like football? Soccer? Bah! says Cal’s national-champion rugby squad (which beat Stanford 82-5 last month, thank you). The Bears host a round of the Rugby National Championship from noon to 3:30 p.m. at Witter Field.
