So What Else Is New in the Residence Halls?

New residents: Heed the advice of recent grads
As you and your student shlep luggage, lamps, bedspreads, hoodies, and Teddy bears into your student’s new home, you might both feel a bit intimidated at the challenges that this new adventure presents. Take heart, though, from the tips to new students offered by some who made it through:

Greg Low

“Explore everything. There’s so much to do here — better to spend your first year exploring rather than already know ahead of time what you’re going to do.”
Greg Low, anthropology, San Leandro

Susie Tu

“Get involved with the campus community and join student organizations. I regret not doing that. Being involved is not only good for your social life — you’ll make more friends — but you’ll also be more aware of what’s going on around campus.”
Susie Tu, applied mathematics, Oakland

Sebastian Koscinski

“Don’t try to become an architect.”
—Sebastian Koscinski, architecture, Mountain View

Anji Singh

“Find out about all the opportunities that are available. You can do the Education Abroad Program even if you’re a financial aid student.”
—Anji Singh, psychology/English, South San Francisco
