Winter 2007 | Richard Black has overseen the admission of every undergraduate student currently at UC Berkeley. And who are the new students this year?
- 4,200 new freshmen, 2,000 new transfer students (and 2,775 new grad students)
- 55% are women, 16% underrepresented minorities, 19% first-generation college-goers
- 47% are Asian-American, 30% Caucasian, 12% Chicano/Latino, 3.4% African American, .5% Native American, remainder “other” or declined to state
- 35% are from the Bay Area, 26% from Los Angeles County, 39% from elsewhere in California — from every county except Alpine
- 294 out-of-state students, 72 international students
- The average GPA is 3.83 unweighted, 4.26 weighted — five students received perfect SAT scores of 2400
- 60% of freshmen use Facebook daily; only 6% have never used it
- Most popular CD purchased by freshmen: Stadium Arcadium, by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
