What to choose on Cal Day? We asked the experts

To pique your interest, we've called in the pros — longtime Cal Day attendees — to offer their opinions on the best of what’s on tap.

"My favorite Cal Day activity is the chancellor's welcome to newly-admitted students and their parents, where he tells them about all the great things at Cal. The audience is so responsive that by the end of his presentation, the chancellor has everyone cheering 'Go Bears!' That excitement sets the tone for the entire day!"
—Beata Fitzpatrick, assistant chancellor

"At the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, we always have live animals and typically have someone carrying around an 8- to 10-foot Colombian red-tailed boa that anyone can touch. We also have a seminar series for grown-ups and students considering Berkeley — and all of our scientists turn out to meet with visitors. Actually, Cal Day is the only time the museum is open to the public."
—Monica Albe, senior scientist, Museum of Vertebrate Zoology

"I look forward to going to talks by faculty I’ve heard are great lecturers or on topics that have never occurred to me — such as the physics behind music."
—Vince Resh, professor, environmental science, policy, and management

"Our whole family looks forward to Cal Day. The youngest loves to go through the museums. Our older kids usually hit multiple sporting events — the spring football game, tennis matches, softball games. My wife and I enjoy the various lectures, as well as the overall energy and dynamism on campus that day."
—Nathan Brostrom, vice chancellor for administration

"Looking back on my first Cal Day, I remember the moment I fell in love with Berkeley. The campus was abundant with energy and spirit, despite the less-than-perfect weather. After I heard the Cal Band play 'Fight,' I knew this university was for me. I turned to my mom and said, 'This is where I want to spend the next four years.'"
—Kaeli Quick '07, former campus tour guide and Cal Band alumna
