The following message was sent to all UC Berkeley undergraduate students on August 13.
Dear Undergraduate Students,
In response to the unusual and challenging circumstances that our students are facing due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Cancel for Non Payment (CNP) policy will be suspended for the Fall 2020 semester. We appreciate and acknowledge the many students who reached out to us and shared their concerns as we approach this unprecedented fall semester. We have made this decision to help support you during this time.
The Friday, August 21 tuition and fee deadline and the following fees still apply to all students, including financial aid recipients and those currently protected from CNP.
Note If you do not intend to enroll in Fall 2020, you must proactively withdraw by August 25 to avoid financial penalty.
Late enroll, drop, and add fees. To avoid future late fees, students must pay tuition and fees in full, enroll and make a payment on the Fee Payment Plan, or apply for a Fall 2020 co payable emergency loan (available August 19). A hold will be placed on student accounts that become 60 days past due which may impact registration and future enrollment. For more information on late payment penalties, see studentbilling.berkeley.edu/
We are here to support you! If you believe you may be at risk of not being able to pay your fees by these deadlines, please contact Cal Student Central as soon as possible (see contact details, below). We can explore options to help you.
The CNP policy in typical semesters requires students to pay 20 percent of tuition and fees by the Friday before classes begin. As noted, this has been suspended this semester. However, be aware that this suspension of the CNP policy applies only to this current fall 2020 semester. The CNP policy has not been suspended for future semesters, including spring 2021. If that were to occur, we will communicate with you in advance to announce any such policy changes.
If you have any concerns, you are encouraged to contact Cal Student Central. Cal Student Central can be reached via phone at 510-664-9181 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday or you can open a case. You may also join our virtual line and one of our advisers will call back to assist you. Our virtual line will be available weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from August 17 to September 4.
