David Ortega
Director, Parent Services and Communication
David is a Cal alumnus, a former Cal football player, and now a proud parent of a recent Cal graduate and two younger daughters. He is the campus point person for parent services and communications. He assists parents with campus processes and works with Cal Parents’ social media, website, and the parent newsletter, Letter Home. David has been on campus for more than 25 years and enjoys helping parents with their Berkeley experience. Go Bears!

Mary Kelley
Director, Parent and Family Philanthropy
Mary joined the Cal Parents team as the Director of Parent and Family Philanthropy. As Director, she provides strategic direction and implementation of a comprehensive plan to increase philanthropic support from UC Berkeley’s parent and family community, provides leadership for the Cal Parents Board and Ambassador volunteer groups, and increases opportunities for meaningful engagement with the university through active volunteerism by current and past Berkeley parents.
Mary brings more than two decades of experience in fundraising leadership roles as human services and educational organizations such as the Center for Victims of Torture in Minneapolis, Live Oak School in San Francisco, Habitat for Humanity, Glide Foundation, and Mercy Housing of California. More recently, she served as Vice President of Philanthropy at BRIDGE Housing in San Francisco. Though a Yale grad herself, Mary comes from a long line of proud Cal and UC grads.

Michelle Mielke Walsh
Associate Director, Parent and Family Philanthropy
Michelle has served on the Berkeley campus for more than 20 years, beginning at Cal Performances and joining Cal Parents & Families in 2009. As Associate Director, she oversees operations for the Parent and Family Philanthropy program, including Cal Parents Board programming, parent communications, data management, and analytics. She also leads parent engagement efforts for Big Give, Berkeley’s annual day of giving.
A native of South Dakota and first-generation college graduate, early in Michelle’s career she supported arts and humanitarian organizations in Minneapolis, with roles at the Walker Art Center and the American Refugee Committee. She also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal. Michelle holds an M.A. in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Outside of work, Michelle enjoys reading, tending plants, and spending time with her husband, teenage daughter, and husky, Bella.

Lloyd Schine
Assistant Director, Parent and Family Philanthropy
Lloyd joined the Cal Parents & Families Program team as the Assistant Director of Parent and Family Philanthropy. As Assistant Director, he raises meaningful gifts from parents of current students and parents of alumni, to support the CAL Parents Fund and other philanthropic needs across the UC Berkeley campus and community. Lloyd holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration, a Master’s in Educational Leadership, and a Master’s in Teaching, from Saint Mary’s College in Moraga. Lloyd has over twenty-five years of professional experience in Donor Development, Volunteer Management, and Alumni and Community Relations, supporting organizations like De La Salle High School, Saint Mary’s College of California and the City of Pleasant Hill. Outside of work, Lloyd can be found with his wife Cri, enjoying their twin sons playing in a baseball tournament, football game or band concert.

Martha Flores
Assistant Director, Parent and Family Philanthropy
Martha Flores is a proud Cal alumna and former staff member with UDAR. Martha graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in political science and went on to work for the Office of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein for several years. In 2014 she returned to her alma mater and joined the College Relations team in Letters & Science. In 2016 she took on an analyst role with the Major Gifts team at UDAR, working closely with fundraisers on the Bay Area team, the Southern California team and with the MG Executive Director. In 2021 Martha took a brief detour from Cal and joined the Office of Development at Stanford. She served as program manager for the IDEAL Initiatives team, where she helped promote and advance fundraising efforts focused on DEI and Social Justice programs at the university, and helped engage and cultivate diverse and next gen alumni communities. Most recently Martha returned to Berkeley in a contract role, working on the East Coast team to support Chancellor and campus leadership trips to the East Coast. Martha is excited to return to UDAR and Berkeley and looks forward to reconnecting and collaborating with colleagues across campus. Martha lives in Richmond with her husband (also a Cal alum), their son, and their dog, Ozzie.

Jesus Aguiniga
Assistant Director, Parent and Family Philanthropy
Jesus serves as the Assistant Director of Parent and Family Philanthropy, where he helps current and alumni parents make meaningful gifts that enrich the student experience at the world’s number one public university. He is also a proud UC Berkeley alum. Go Bears! Before joining the Parent & Family Philanthropy team, Jesus was previously on the Student Experience and Diversity Philanthropy team here at UC Berkeley, bringing with him a deep knowledge and understanding of the campus and its community. Outside of work, Jesus enjoys weightlifting and playing pickleball. He also has a deep love for art and history, and loves traveling the world.

Karen joined the Cal Parents & Families team as Development Associate. In her role, she supports efforts to expand philanthropic support from Berkeley's parent and family community. Previously, Karen served as the Operations Administrative Associate at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, and she began her non-profit fundraising career at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula. Karen graduated from Cal State University, East Bay with a B.A. in Human Development. She loves to hike, go to the gym, do her nails, spend time with her dog and family, and is a budding plant enthusiast.
